RUN 11 · NOV 2026 10 PIECES · FROM €120

Coats nobody came back for. Recut.

Since 1962, Pressing Elba has kept a conveyor of coats nobody collected. After ninety days we unpick them, recut them and press them into a new run of menswear.

THE RULE · SINCE 1962

“Articles not called for within 90 days will be disposed of remade.”

Collect after 90 days. Or let us remake it.

Pressing Elba opened at 41 Rue Lamartine in 1962. Coats, jackets and work shirts came in on Monday and left on Saturday. Some never left. After ninety days the rule on the ticket said they could go. In 2019 the owner's grandson stopped throwing them away and started cutting new pieces from them, on the same counter, under the same conveyor.

How a coat becomes a new piece

Hook to hook.

Every piece takes the same four steps, on the same counter.

  1. A coat with an expired ticket lifted off its conveyor hook.

    Day 91.

The ticket runs out. The coat comes off the loop.

  2. A coat's seams opened by hand on the counter, buttons and labels set aside.

    Unpick.

Every seam opened by hand. Buttons, linings and labels kept.

  3. A paper pattern chalked onto old wool cloth before cutting.

    Recut.

A new pattern on old cloth. Nothing bought new except thread.

  4. A finished piece steamed, bagged and ticketed on its hanger.

    Press and ticket.

Steamed, bagged, numbered. Back on the loop.

Same coat. Second life.

UNC-0311 started as a 1987 gabardine mac that waited 112 days on hook 214.

Before: the 1987 gabardine mac as it was left, uncollected on its hook.
After: the UNC-0311 Mac Coat cut from it.

Questions at the counter.

Q-01How do the sizes run?

Relaxed. Take your usual size; size down for a closer fit. Each piece lists its chest and length on the ticket.

Q-02Is every piece one of a kind?

Almost. A run is as long as the coats we had that month, usually three to nine pieces.

Q-03Where do the coats come from?

From our own loop: coats left at Pressing Elba for more than ninety days. Nothing is bought in.

Q-04How long do I have to return?

Ninety days, naturally.

Q-05Can I bring my own coat?

Yes. Leave it at the counter. We ticket it and remake it for you.

Q-06How should I care for it?

Brush, air, press. Bring it back to the counter once a year; pressing is free for life.
